Jung Yup - Nothing Better

You guys know what’s going to come if I post a Korean song right? That’s right. Korean food post spam.

I received this package, well, technically my sister did since I was still at the hospital yesterday from Karina.

And inside there were lovely books and:

Oh.my.goodness.

The elusive gochujang (Korean red pepper paste).

The same gochujang that I’ve been bitching and complaining about for not being available here.

OMG you guises let’s just sit here and marvel at the beauty of this 1kg packet of gochujang that she’s been taunting me with ever since my birthday.

I can’t believe it’s here! Now I’m definitely going to try to make something with it. All those Korean recipes that I’ve put aside because I have given up on trying to find gochujang here are now back on the cooking list.

I have the weekend off before I move to another hospital so I hope I’ll be able to make something with the paste then.

I’ve gotten my fair share of birthday presents during my life but this is one of the few that shows no one really knows you like your best friend does.

Cocoa for Karina

I’ve long promised Karina that I’ll send her a package but never got around or had the chance to do it. I finally got the time to do it recently, and in the midst of excitement, I made the wrong assumption that it was winter in Melbourne (because it’s winter in Qatar). Then I realized she’s in the southern hemisphere and it’s blazing hot summer there. But I’ve already made this little mix and will send it her way anyways, for whenever she feels like having a cuppa :)

Mocha Cocoa Mix in a Jar (Makes 6 servings):

Layer (in a jar): [1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder + 1/2 cup granulated sugar + 1/4 cup espresso powder, 1/2 cup powdered milk + 1/2 teaspoon salt + and 1/4 cup chopped bittersweet chocolate or miniature chocolate chips]

To serve:

Mix contents in a large bowl. For each serving, place 1/3 cup cocoa mix in a mug and stir in 1 cup boiling water. Store remaining mix in airtight container.”

Enjoy!
