So, I’ve been silently stalking your blog for the past couple months and I’ve cooked legit one thing (the herbed fries, a simple one I know). But I’m cooking for my friend, like we made a plan that I would cook for her and that would be that. So, I was planning on the wonton mozzarella sticks (if I can find the skins) but I don’t know what would be a good main thing to do. Annnnny ideas? We’re not foodies or anything, we just like good food. Sorry this is so long, haha. - Notions & Notations of a Novice Cook

Well hello there! I’m glad you decided to break the vow of silence, but would you mind greatly if you check back here for a more comprehensive answer a little later? I’ve got a few errands to run now and in the meantime, those with great ideas can [should] come forth and contribute!

Hello! Since you mentioned that you might be making the mozarella wonton sticks, may I suggest that you fry it instead of baking it? It’s just that there’s a high chance of the cheese melting and spilling out before the wrapper hardens and creates a seal around it. For full meal ideas, I usually watch Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals - he makes the apps, mains, sides and dessert, essentially the whole schbang in 30 minutes. Here’s one of my favourite meal he’s made.

When people who don’t cook much ask me for a recommendation on something easy to cook, without giving me any ideas about what they like to eat, I point out what a ridiculous request that is of me. Perhaps bigredk9 could narrow it down a little bit?

Give us SOME guidance so we don’t waste time recommending something you would never eat, or would be considered too much trouble. For example, a simple roast chicken can be wonderful if executed well. It’s one of our favorite meals although we also like plenty of more “complicated” dishes. But does bigredk9 even like roast chicken? Does he/she have a roasting pan? So bigred, I’d ask that you give us something to work with and put some thought into what kind of things you’re capable of making and what you like or absolutely don’t like. Then maybe we can give you more meaningful advice on what to make as a main course.
You do know that you’re right, right? I usually ask the asker to give me exact specifications, like limitations and what type of dish the recipient of the meal would enjoy. But given that he said he has only made the herbed fries (although I can’t tell if this is due to limitations of cooking ability, time, equipment or ingredients) , that somewhat narrows down the field a bit, which is why I suggested the Jamie Oliver videos. But yeah, more specifics would’ve been helpful.
